I learned through Ancestry.com that I am part Nigerian and so are both of my parents. What better way to celebrate Kwanzaa than to paint something that not only honors my parents and highlights my favorite Kwanzaa principle, KUUMBA (creativity)! This was a live painted done December 29, 2019 at Cultured Studios in New London, CT for the studio’s first annual Kwanzaa celebration. The past I never new existed is embedded in this piece as it acts as a dedication to my late mother and my Nigerian ancestors. Peace.
